New wave of successful applications to the RCVS Trust

5 April 2004

The RCVS Trust continues its investment in innovative and high-calibre research and animal welfare projects in the UK and overseas.

Twenty-three small grants and travel scholarships have just been awarded to veterinary professionals based in veterinary schools, practices and charities across the UK and overseas.

On hearing the news of his successful application, Dr Martin Sheldon, (Senior Lecturer in Farm Animal Reproduction at the Royal Veterinary College in London) said,

"This is very good news. Our grant from the RCVS Trust will help address an important gap in knowledge about the cause and prevention of uterine infection in cattle by part-funding the design and evaluation of an evidence-based bovine uterine health programme."

Sarah Taylor, Resident in Equine Studies at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh added, "My RCVS Trust Dame Olga Uvarov Travel Scholarship will allow me to undertake key laboratory bench work at the University of Lund, Sweden that will form the basis of my MSc thesis.

"Working in a world-class laboratory with professionals at the forefront of research into human and animal osteoarthritis will not only give me excellent experience and increase my knowledge base, it will also encourage collaboration between universities and research centres."
