Privy Council dismisses appeal of W Yorks vet

2 July 2004

Please note: This is an archived news story. Mr Alan Roderick Tait was removed from the RCVS Register of Members on 30th July 2004 on the instruction of the Registrar. He is therefore not currently entitled to practise as a veterinary surgeon in the UK.

The Privy Council has dismissed a veterinary surgeon's appeal against being struck off by the RCVS (NB. see addendum below).

Mr Alan Roderick Tait was found guilty of disgraceful conduct in a professional respect at a disciplinary hearing last November, after exhibiting "conscious impropriety and persistent fabrication" in his veterinary practice. The RCVS Disciplinary Committee directed that his name be removed from the Register.

However, despite Mr Tait's stated intention to appeal to the Privy Council against this decision, he subsequently failed to pursue his appeal beyond the initial stages.

At the request of the RCVS, the Privy Council yesterday dismissed Mr Tait's appeal for non-prosecution. The RCVS was also awarded costs.
