Proud moment for newly qualified Veterinary Nurses

27 February 2006

Twenty-one veterinary nurses, together with their family and friends, attended an awards ceremony at the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons on Wednesday 22 February 2006.

The newly-qualified VNs were presented with their VN badges and Certificates in Veterinary Nursing by RCVS President Lynne Hill, as evidence of their achievements and their eligibility to List and work as qualified veterinary nurses.

Andrea Jeffery, Chairman of the Veterinary Nurses Council, gave a short introduction about the history of veterinary nursing and the ongoing work of the VN Council, which was followed by the award presentation.

Mrs Hill concluded the ceremony by congratulating the VNs on their achievements, emphasising how the future of the profession is shaped by those who work in it and encouraging them to continue learning throughout their careers.

The veterinary nurses and their visitors then enjoyed a drinks reception to celebrate their achievements. Newly-qualified VN Karin Lanham (pictured) was very excited about receiving her qualification, saying: "It's a proud moment. I worked really hard and it was stressful at times, but I got there in the end. I've still got lots to learn and don't think I'll ever stop."
