Annual Report and Financial Statements for 2023 published ahead of RCVS AGM

The RCVS has published its Annual Report and Financial Statements for 2023, giving an overview of both the College’s finances and its key projects and achievements during the year in review.

The Annual Report (available to download from our publications page) sets out how the College, throughout the course of the year, delivered on the four overarching ambitions (clarity, compassion, courage and confidence), and the actions which sit under each, as set out in the RCVS 2020-2024 Strategic Plan.Some of the highlights include:

• The launch of the Veterinary Clinical Careers Pathway project, an ambitious new initiative to expand and diversify the career options available to the profession, including consideration of more flexible routes to specialisation and greater recognition for general practitioners;
• Setting up the Public Advisory Group, which is made up of a broad range of animal owners and keepers, and which will aim to help us better understand some of the issues affecting the public and improve our public-facing services;
• The launch of new online RCVS Academy resources, including those specifically aimed at helping the transition of newly-qualified veterinary nurses into life as an RVN, as well as those returning to the profession after an extended absence;
• Conducting a joint survey with British Veterinary Chronic Illness Support (BVCIS) into the experiences of veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses with chronic illnesses and/or disabilities in order to better understand the challenges they may face and how greater support and awareness can be provided.

In addition, the Annual Report features updates from our charity partner RCVS Knowledge, as well as details of RCVS financial management policies, and an independent auditor’s report on the College.

RCVS Council will be asked to formally adopt the Annual Report and Financial Statements at our Annual General Meeting on Friday 5 July, at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London.

Ahead of the AGM, veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses are able to submit questions about the Annual Report. Subject to time, these will be answered by the College at the AGM, or followed up in writing after the event.
