Heading to BVA Live? Our new Learning Zone will help you get up to speed

28 April 2023

Following the launch of BVA Live last year, we will be returning to the event for its second year at the NEC Birmingham on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 May 2023, bringing along our new ‘Learning Zone’ feature, a series of ‘on-stand’ mini-presentations about some of our key activities.

The College will be on stand number F65 throughout the course of the event with the following Learning Zone presentations taking place:

  • The RCVS Academy: What it can offer you – Thursday 11 May at 10.30am and 1.30pm and Friday 12 May at 10.30am and 2pm with Robyn Carneiro, RCVS Academy Digital Learning Coordinator.
  • Workforce ambitions: the future is you – 11am and 1pm on Thursday 11 May and 11am and 1pm on Friday 12 May with our President Melissa Donald.
  • VN Futures: is the future of veterinary nursing in safe hands? – 11.30am and 3.45pm on Thursday 11 May with Jill Macdonald, VN Futures Project Lead, and 11.30am and 3.45pm with Belinda Andrews-Jones, our VN Council Vice-Chair.
  • A new EMS policy for the future: improving learning, flexibility and opportunity – 12.30pm and 3.15pm on Thursday 11 May with Duncan Ash, Senior Education Officer, and 1.30pm and 3.15pm on Friday 12 May with Lizzie Lockett, our CEO.

RCVS Registrar Eleanor Ferguson will also be delivering a talk as part of the BVA Live programme on Thursday 11 May at 4.30pm on ‘Myth-busting RCVS complaints.’ The talk will encompass how the RCVS concerns investigation process works and sources of support – including the ProfCon Investigation Support service – for those who are being investigated.

For this year’s VN Awareness Month we will also be running a VN Futures-related activity on our stand in which we will ask RVNs and other members of the veterinary team to share with us why the VN role is so important, what they enjoy about being a veterinary nurse, and what they’re most excited about for the VN profession. This will be written on a card and then posted as a photograph on social media using hashtag #VNFutures.

In addition to the Learning Zone presentations, there will also be information on the stand about the RCVS Academy and its courses, the Mind Matters Initiative, the RCVS Leadership scheme, the 1CPD app, VetGDP, our new EMS policy, the new under care guidance and the Practice Standards Scheme.

Visitors to our stand will also be encouraged to take part in a short survey about our website, with the chance to win prizes each day. We are currently in the process of planning a number of future improvements to the RCVS website, and so want to find out what you think of it, in terms of ease of finding and understanding the information you need to know.

More information about our stand at BVA Live can be found on the RCVS Events section of the website.
