Lively debate at Question Time in Ewloe

Over 70 veterinary surgeons, veterinary nurses and practice colleagues attended a lively RCVS Question Time meeting in Ewloe, near Chester, on Thursday 24 May.

Recording CPD, 24-hour cover, the status of the profession and the use of animals in biomedical research are just a selection of the topics that were raised at the meeting.

Guests had the opportunity to catch up with colleagues while enjoying a hot buffet and drinks at the De Vere St David's Hotel before the meeting started.

RCVS President Sheila Crispin, chaired the meeting and kicked off the evening with a short presentation about the College and recent developments in the veterinary profession.

A wide range of questions had been submitted beforehand which were put to the panel, made up of the RCVS Officer team and Chairman of the Veterinary Nurses Council.

The new non-statutory Register and Guide to Professional Conduct for Veterinary Nurses were also high on the agenda for the large number of veterinary nurses who came to the meeting. Questions were asked about how the Guide would affect veterinary nurses' day-to-day work, and the benefits of registration.

There was also time at the end of the meeting for additional questions from the floor, which resulted in a lively and interesting debate, covering many areas from tail-docking to homoeopathy.  A full report of the meeting will be available on RCVSonline shortly.

The next Regional Question Time meeting is planned for Tuesday 25 September in Stirling. Further details will be available soon.
