New President takes the reins at the RCVS

5 July 2002

Stephen Ware, veterinary surgeon from Woodstock, was elected 127th President of the RCVS at its Annual General Meeting on Friday 5 July 2002.

Stephen has been in veterinary practice for over 30 years - most of which have been spent at his mixed animal practice in Woodstock, which he joined as an Assistant in 1972. He is the third practitioner in a row to take over the reins at the RCVS.

During his one year Presidency, Stephen hopes to improve communications with the members of the RCVS. He also intends to see several ongoing projects through to fruition such as the review of undergraduate veterinary education and the harmonisation of standards within veterinary practice.

Of his new position Mr Ware said: "I look forward to the challenge of bringing the profession through a period of total overhaul both of the basic veterinary training, and in practice standards which will affect the majority of their lives. It is my hope that members feel that they can contact me on any issue and I shall endeavour to best address these."

In his little remaining spare time, Stephen hopes to pursue his hobbies - sailing, skiing, gardening and DIY.

If you would like to contact Stephen at the RCVS, please email him or telephone 020 7202 0761.
