RCVS List of Veterinary Nurses 2007 now available

22 June 2007

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons List of Veterinary Nurses 2007 is now available. It includes the names of all those who have passed appropriate qualifications, have listed with the RCVS and are therefore allowed to perform certain procedures permitted by Schedule 3 to the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966.

This is the last time the List will be published in its current format. The non-statutory Register for veterinary nurses opens on 1 September 2007, so the 2008 List will be divided into two sections: the unregulated List and the regulated Register.

All those VNs listing since 1 January 2003 will transfer to the Register automatically. For others, registration is voluntary, but only by joining will veterinary nurses demonstrate to employers and the general public that they are keeping their skills up-to-date and accounting for their professional conduct.

Only registered VNs will be able to use the letters RVN (Registered Veterinary Nurse) after their name. Letters will be sent during July to all those VNs eligible to register on a voluntary basis.

Anyone wishing to check if a veterinary nurse is listed can do so via RCVSonline. Once the Register is open it will also be possible to check online to see if a VN is registered.

The new List has been posted to all listed veterinary nurses and it can also be purchased online for £10.

NB: Due to an administrative error, 20 names were omitted from the equine veterinary nurse List and 23 from the small animal List. We apologise for the mistake. An erratum to the List will be issued shortly. All listed veterinary nurses are included on the online version.
