RCVS seeks to set record straight over Daily Express article
3 December 2002
The RCVS today wrote to the Daily Express newspaper after its attention was brought to a misleading headline that appeared in yesterday's edition of the national paper.
The Express had wrongly referred to Paul Richardson as a veterinary surgeon in an article about animal rights campaigners and their reported activities. As this name does not appear in the College's Register of Members, the RCVS Registrar wrote to the editor of the newspaper to inform him of this as follows:
The Editor
The Daily Express
Sir
I write with reference to your headline "TV vet probed over Wills plot" (David Smith, Monday 2 December 2002).
One of the responsibilities of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons is to maintain a Register of veterinary surgeons eligible to practise in the UK. The Paul Richardson described in this article is not listed in our Register of Members and so does not have the right to be called a veterinary surgeon or to practise veterinary surgery in this country.
Yours faithfully
Miss JC Hern
Registrar
