RCVS Trust Golden Jubilee Year boosted by Intervet / Schering-Plough donation

16 February 2009

Intervet / Schering-Plough Animal Health is donating £1,000 to the RCVS Trust as part of celebrations for the Trust’s Golden Jubilee year, which started in mid-2008.

The donation will help fund the Trust’s grants programme, which is highly valued by the profession and students at the UK vet schools.

The sum donated is equivalent to a travel grant or EMS Research Scholarship, both of which encourage research, either clinical or non-clinical.

Intervet / Schering-Plough is a long-term supporter of the Trust, which has made a significant contribution to veterinary education and science by awarding over £1 million to nearly 60 innovative and high-calibre research and animal welfare projects in the UK and overseas to mark its Golden Jubilee year.

In addition to a £250,000 investment in six new UK residencies and nearly £120,000 across nine new Blue Sky Research projects, the Trust also released an additional £500,000 to fund two Golden Jubilee Awards – one at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies looking at canine ageing and regeneration and another at Liverpool Veterinary School in veterinary pathogen genomics.

The Trust is also funding a number of extremely worthwhile overseas projects through its network of charity partners, including SPANA, Wildlife Vets International and the Worldwide Veterinary Service.

On receiving the cheque from David Hallas, General Manager of Intervet / Schering-Plough Animal Health, recently-appointed Trust Director Cherry Bushell said: “It’s great to see how supportive and interested Intervet / Schering-Plough continues to be in our work.

"We both strive to support the profession, and we can do that even better when we can find ways to work together.”
