Win London Pet Show tickets!
19 April 2013
Please note this competition closed on 30 April 2013.
We have two pairs of tickets to the London Pet Show (Earls Court Two, 11-12 May) on offer as prizes in our free online draw – so why not try your luck?
As well as our lucky winners, we hope to meet lots of other animal owners at the show, as we will have a stand there for the first time.
Reaching animal owners through this kind of event is a new step for us, and is an important part of achieving our aim of being an approachable, proactive regulator.
Although we regulate the veterinary profession in the public interest, the sheer number of animal owners can make it difficult to contact them individually, and people mostly do not think about regulation unless there is an issue.
However, we do have a role in offering information and advice to animal owners that may help avoid problems. For example, it’s useful for owners to make sure they understand what 24-hour emergency cover a practice offers before they need it, and to have information about finding a practice to register their animals with.
“Based on the calls and emails we receive, questions from visitors to the show are likely to include why vets request consultations for certain repeat prescriptions, about the role of the veterinary nurse, and why we cannot consider fees – which relates to the College’s jurisdiction,” says Lizzie Lockett, Head of Communications at the RCVS.
“We also expect interest in our careers materials – which give frank and realistic advice about the varied types of work vets and veterinary nurses carry out – which will be available at the stand.”
Free, online tools such as ‘Find a Vet’ and ‘Check the Register,’ which are useful for animal owners, will be promoted at the show, as will the Practice Standards Scheme, a voluntary scheme that encourages practices to maintain and improve specific standards
Our stand is sandwiched between ‘small furries’ and ‘reptiles’ so we hope we don’t get caught up in the middle of a snack.
